Using Your Own OpenAI API Key
With your own OpenAI API key, you have full control over token usage and billing while using Deformity’s AI features. Your Deformity plan’s rates and usage limits remain unchanged whether you use our default key or your own.
Follow the three simple steps below to add and manage continuity of your custom key. Note that this feature requires a Pro or Enterprise subscription; Free tier users will need to upgrade. It is not available with Instant Responses.
The model is locked to GPT-4.1 mini, though we upgrade as newer models become available. We measure the trade-offs between intelligence, speed, and cost when choosing the models that Deformity runs on.

Step 1: Open My Settings
Click the dropdown beside your name in the bottom right on the main Dashboard, then select Settings.
Step 2: Enter Your OpenAI Key
In the Settings panel under My Settings, locate the OpenAI API Key field. Paste your key from the OpenAI Dashboard and click Save.
To remove your API key at any time, simply clear out the OpenAI API Key field and click Save.
Step 3: Key Fallback & Continuity
Once saved, all AI-driven parts of your forms (previews, summaries, and parsing) will consume tokens from your key. If your key ever fails, Deformity will automatically revert to our default key and notify you via email.
