Using Prefilled Answers in Your Deformity

If you're looking to store extra data without showing it to your users, check out our Hidden Values guide.

Prefilled Answers allow you to provide default responses in your Deformity that users can see and, if needed, change. This helps guide users through the form and can speed up the process by suggesting common answers.

What Are Prefilled Answers?

Prefilled Answers are default answers that appear on your form. They give users a starting point and can be modified if needed. This feature makes it easier for users to fill out your Deformity while ensuring that common responses are consistent.

How to Add Prefilled Answers

To add Prefilled Answers, open your Deformity builder and click “Share”. This brings up a screen where you can set default answers that will appear on your form.

You can also manually add parameters to the URL, and the builder’s interface makes this process easy by updating the link automatically as you add your prefilled answers.

Sharing Your Deformity with Prefilled Answers

Once you've added your Prefilled Answers, you can share your Deformity with a URL that includes these default answers. For example, if you have a Prefilled Answer called email, your URL might look like this:

https://deformity.ai/d/deformityId#email=mike@zap.com

In this example, mike@zap.com will appear as the default answer on your form, and users can change it if needed.

Important: Prefilled Answers only work if they match the specific points in your form. Make sure you have already defined the points in your Deformity before using Prefilled Answers, as the system needs to know where to apply them.

Using Multiple Prefilled Answers

You can add several Prefilled Answers to streamline your form. For example, if you want to prefill both a username and an email address, your URL might look like this:

https://deformity.ai/d/deformityId#username=JohnDoe&email=johndoe@example.com

Each parameter will appear on the form as a default response that users can review and edit.

Prefilled Answers vs. Hidden Values

Both Prefilled Answers and Hidden Values can be added via the URL, but they serve different purposes:

  • Prefilled Answers: Appear on the form as default responses that users can see and modify.
  • Hidden Values: Stored behind the scenes and never shown to the user.

Use Prefilled Answers when you want to guide your users with suggested responses.
